Biography: 

Jean Pierre Hitimana is a GIS Officer at the Centre for Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing of the University of Rwanda (CGIS – UR) since June 2005 up to now. In 2004, he graduated from the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (former KIST) with bachelor degree in Computer Engineering and Information Technology, September 2014, He has got a MSc. in ICT Policy and Regulation from University of Rwanda (UR). He has been actively involved in policy development and research in spatial data, instructor in R training. Jean Pierre participated in several research and consultancy projects writing and implementation, wherever Geo-information techniques and tools are being used.

7. Publications and reviewed Conference papers

1) In March 2008: Global Dialogues on Emerging Science and Technology (GDEST) 2008 Conference organized by US Department of State which took place in Cape Town, South Africa from 17 to 19 March 2008 and I have presented a paper on "Analysis of Data Sharing Environment and Major Challenges Currently Being Faced in Data Sharing in Rwanda". At this Conference (GDEST) 2008, I have been the chairperson of one of the sessions of the conference.

2) In June 2009: Spatial Data Infrastructure Convergence: Building SDI Bridges to Address Global Challenges, 11th International Conference organized by GSDI Association conference. I presented a paper on “Experiences in Developing Local, National SDI Initiatives, Projects and Programs (NICI Plan) in Rwanda”, Netherlands in Rotterdam

3) On 10th -20th October 2011: I have participated to the Workshop-Training on “Advanced Land Surface Characterisation” Organized by “South African National Space Agency” (SANSA) in partnership with the “Committee on Space Research” (COSPAR) which took place at the satellite design laboratory at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, in Bellville, Cape Town, South Africa from 10th to 20th October 2011
